One of the most commonly asked questions when it comes to cloud security is, “What is the difference between cloud security and cloud management?” The answer to this question is: a whole lot.


With cloud security, the focus is on protection rather than management, while with board management the focus is on security but not necessarily management. Now, if you want to know what’s the difference between cloud security and cloud management, then keep reading.


When we speak of Board Security, then we’re talking about Board Management. Board Security services are often provided by third party vendors who manage the board management in their own dedicated environment. 


When we speak of cloud management, then we’re talking about Cloud Security.

In the cloud realm, this would be referred to as cloud computing. Cloud computing refers to the “delivery” of computing resources via the Internet and to the delivery of applications via the Internet.


What you need to understand when you think about Boards Security is that Board Management tends to be a separate entity that operates independently from the core systems. The Board Security Processes often consists of specialized computer systems which are deployed and then administered separately from the core software.


At the end of the day, the difference between the two is mostly determined by the way the services are delivered and the management of the processes. When you speak of Board Security, then you are referring to Cloud Security, while when you talk about Board Management you are referring to Cloud Management. Board Security Services is usually running on specialized computers (for example, COTS, Data Center Automation Systems) which are integrated with the security management systems.


The operations that they perform arenot usually as centralised as the cloud infrastructure so you don’t see the same need for Cloud Security as you do in the cloud. The fact that there is no centralised process makes things a little more challenging, because there are many different “different” needs for the service.


This means that this is much more of a “Workflow” and a “Control” system than a “Security”Process” system.


As you can see, the two are very different in the way they deliver and they also operate and are operated and so when you speak of Board Security or Board Management, you are really talking about slightly different entities. It’s a little bit like a big soup versus a big pot of soup – the soup tends to be made in a board room and then it’s packaged and sold to customers.


When you speak of Cloud Security or Cloud Management, you are referring to a different process, because of the remote nature of the service delivery – it’s only when you need it that you call it to your attention. So, it is more about managing the service than the service itself.


The Board Management teams are typically people who are in charge of security and monitoring – not necessarily people who are in charge of the software and deployment process. It’s sometimes referred to as board management teams because they are responsible for the security activities that are conducted and also the management process that is required in order to get the software in place.


The Board Management team then offers management support services for the deployment and integration processes. With the increasingly sophisticated security practices that are being implemented in the information security sector, it is important that a distinct separate team of people to be set up to provide the advice and guidance needed for IT security.
